💬 If Rolling in Doh were a publishing imprint, what would your imaginary book title be?

Right after I read this passage, pausing to underline its relevance to my intentions here at Doh, Patrick Geary✨ tagged me in his post, Self Helped.¹ He writes:

“My favorite kind of self-help book is the kind that gives it all away in the title . . . I love buying these books as much as I love never reading them. In fact, my brilliant best friend Rachana Bhide and I have an imaginary library that is filled to the brim with scholarly tomes of self-evident self-help.

We publish new titles with reckless abandon as our lives deliver perfectly tailored morsels of pithy comical insight, and our launches are inevitably greeted with guffaws. We laugh because it is ludicrous to think that a single sentence could meaningfully shift our perspective on life, and we laugh even harder because it does.”

Thus, he launched his imaginary self-evident self-help book with only a cover, no manuscript needed:

Obvious Wisdom Publishing Presents: I Know What I’m Doing . . . And I’m Doing It

I want to frame this and put it on my wall! Years ago, I contemplated writing a book titled, coincidentally, Self Helped, on how I was retiring from tirelessly reading that genre, declaring myself sufficiently “helped” and thus self-accepted, no longer a problem to be solved.

In 2010, my friend Julie Clow and I purchased the domain YesYouBook.com in advance of our imaginary satirical self-help tome titled, “Yes . . . You!” proclaiming that whatever it is you dream about, Yes . . . YOU! can do it too!
